• Leave the bandage on until you can get to a clean space to wash your tattoo. You can leave it on for anywhere up to 8 hours. If your tattoo is feeling hot and swollen, you can use an ice pack or cold compress while the tattoo is still wrapped

  • Wash your hands thoroughly

  • After removing the bandage immediately wash the tattoo with warm water and a mild soap

    • Use a mild liquid soap with no fragrances or colours. Do not use bar soap as it collects bacteria from sitting out wet and you don’t want to introduce that into your new tattoo

    • Create a lather using gentle pressure with your fingertips only (no cloths or luffas)

    • Rinse well with warm water, then cold water to close the pores

    • Re-wash if the tattoo is still greasy or slimy

    • Pat dry with a clean towel, or let air dry

  • After washing, moisturize the tattoo with a small amount of 100% pure coconut oil being careful not to leave a thick layer, just enough to keep it moisturized. Every bodie’s skin is different, you may need a little less or more. If your skin feels tight or dry apply a little more.  Avoid allowing the tattoo to become greasy or oversaturated with the coconut oil

  • Continue to wash 2 - 3 times per day for 5-7 days. For the first day or 2 you may experience a lot of seepage and you may wash your tattoo as needed if the seepage begins to collect

Aftercare Information

  • Your tattoo can get wet, but do not submerge or soak it in a bath, pool, ocean etc. for about 2 weeks

  • After 2 or 3 days of coconut oil, switch to moisturizing with an unscented white or clear lotion such as Curel or Jergens. Only moisturize/touch your tattoo after you have thoroughly washed your hands

  • Your tattoo may begin to itch and the skin will most likely peel and flake off which is completely normal.   Do not pick at any scabs that may form or scratch at the tattoo. The skin may feel dry and you can use the lotion liberally at this point

  • Continue moisturizing until fully healed, which may be anywhere from 2 to 6 weeks, and varies person-to-person

  • Do not let pets or other people lick or touch your tattoo while it is healing

  • Avoid clothing and jewelry rubbing on your tattoo

  • Avoid direct sun exposure for 1 month. After 1 month, using sunscreen and keeping your tattoo covered while in the sun will help the pigment stay darker and brighter for longer

  • Do not consult the internet or friends for aftercare advice, contact your tattoo artist with any questions

  • When your tattoo is completely healed, I will be more than happy to touch it up if necessary within 6 months at no charge as long as you follow my aftercare and the touch up isn’t due to mishandling while healing

Happy caring for your new tattoo! xo
